14 Self-Care Habits to Help De-stress

Practice showing love to yourself (or someone special)

Written by Coach Dianne on Feb 1, 2019

Or 14 last-minute ways to show you care (about yourself or your significant other). These habits are also helpful for relaxing and lowering stress.

1. Herbal foot bath

You know what supports you no matter what? Your feet. Yes, time to give them some TLC.

Choose a comfy seat. Fill a bucket or baking dish with hot water. Add in a few drops of essential oils like lavender for relaxation, slices of orange/lemon for rejuvenating steam, sprigs of dried or fresh rosemary, mint or eucalyptus.

Soak for 15 minutes. Rinse oils off, towel dry and enjoy relaxed muscles.

2. Massages

Your muscles take a beating. From day-to-day living, work, and the gym. (Maybe from sitting in that one position for too long that you’re too lazy to reposition from.)

Massage away at the arms, neck, head, thighs and calves. Add in some stretching for good measure to limber up those limbs.

3. Scent some candles

Set something on fire for V-day 🔥 Like candles. (nothing illegal plz)

Nothing like the scent of Zero F*cks or Bottomless Mimosas to spice up your night

4. Yoga (for 1 or 2)

Haven’t we harped on the benefits of stretching enough? Okay – it also helps release tension and elongates muscle fibers to warm up for more … vigorous activities later 😉

But seriously. Yoga focuses on balance and the push & pull of your systems. Great for centering yourself and increasing flexibility.

12. Make a fruit bouquet

Ditch allergen-causing flowers. Ok, maybe pollen isn’t our best friend.

But sometimes good things come out of it – like fruit!

Take skewers and stab them through pieces of strawberries, watermelon, grapes, or whatever’s in the fruit bowl. Arrange in a tall mug. Voila!

13. Host a game night

Start with relationship-testing Settlers of Catan, Saboteur or Super Mario Party. Gather your other very free friends and play virtual Pictionary or choose from tons of Jackbox Games

14. Get swept off your feet by Regency Romance novels

Library e-books are a thing. Did we mention they’re free?

The romance sections are chock-full of Mr. Darcy-esque novels ranging from innocent to scandalous tales.

Our guilty pleasures (or obsessions)?
– Secrets of a Summer Night
– My Lady’s Choosing
– Someone to Wed

If you prefer Sci-Fi or Fantasy, try
– The Faceless Mage
– Aurora Rising
– Magic Forged
